Ajay Devgn's "Maidaan" flopped despite Eid release
Ajay Devgn's recent film has turned out to be a major disappointment at the box office. The biographical sports drama, which cost Rs 250 crore to produce, only earned Rs 68 crore. Despite being released on the festive occasion of Eid, the film failed to attract audiences. Directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor, the film focuses on legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The cast includes Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh. The film faced several delays before its release, initially scheduled for December 2020. Delays were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a cyclone in Mumbai. Industry expert Girish Johar believes the film did not resonate with viewers. He noted that while some critics gave it good reviews, the audience found it too long and the music unappealing. Additionally, it faced tough competition from another action thriller starring big names like Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, which also underperformed at the box office. In summary, despite high expectations and star power, this film struggled to make an impact and has been regarded as one of Ajay Devgn's biggest flops.
