Akron hosts JazzWeek 25 festival celebrating jazz legacy

The University of Akron will host a music festival called JazzWeek 25: Abundance from April 7 to April 11. This event is organized by the School of Music Jazz Studies Department. The festival celebrates Akron's rich jazz history and invites students, faculty, musicians, and the community to join. JazzWeek 25 features a variety of performances and educational workshops. It is open to all ages. Notable local musicians like Chris Coles, Theron Brown, and Dan Wilson will perform, alongside national jazz artists Joshua Redman and Sean Jones. The festival includes several scheduled events. On April 7, Sean Jones will perform with SmokeFace and Floco Torres at Blu Jazz for $15, free for students. On April 8, Joshua Redman will perform at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, with tickets priced at $30, also free for students. On April 9, a faculty performance featuring Sean Jones will present Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool. This event is free, but donations are accepted. The University of Akron Jazz Ensemble will play on April 10 at Musica, also with free admission and donation options. Lastly, Hubb’s Groove Jazz Vespers will take place on April 11 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with free entry and donation acceptance.
