Akron man receives life sentence for murder of East High student Antenio Louis

Darrin Welch, 19, was sentenced to life in prison for the August 2023 murder of 17-year-old Antenio Louis. Welch pleaded guilty to murder and felonious assault, marking a significant legal outcome in the case. Louis was shot while riding in a car on East Glenwood Avenue. Welch's vehicle reportedly drove in front of Louis' car and opened fire, resulting in Louis' death and injuries to the driver. Welch is also facing charges in a separate murder case and is expected to plead guilty next week. He will not be eligible for parole for at least 30 years across both cases.
