Akshay Kumar worked for free on Selfiee's failure

Prithviraj Sukumaran shared that Akshay Kumar worked for free on the film Selfiee, which did not succeed at the box office. Prithviraj, who produced the movie, said Akshay only agreed to take payment if the film made a profit. Since Selfiee did not perform well, Akshay did not receive any money from it. In 2022, Akshay Kumar faced challenges as many of his films, including Raksha Bandhan and Ram Setu, did poorly. This trend continued into 2023 when Selfiee also failed to attract audiences, earning only ₹24.6 crore worldwide. Selfiee is a comedy-drama directed by Raj Mehta and is based on the Malayalam film Driving Licence. It features a cast that includes Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty. The film received mixed-to-negative reviews. Despite the setback with Selfiee, Akshay Kumar's next project, OMG 2, was a hit. However, his following four films did not perform well at the box office. Looking ahead, Akshay has several upcoming films, including Kesari Chapter 2, Bhooth Bangla, Jolly LLB 3, Housefull 5, and Welcome To The Jungle, while Prithviraj is set to release his self-directed film L2: Empuraan on March 27.
