AL Central has four strong teams; White Sox struggling
The American League Central division looks competitive heading into the 2025 season. Last year, four teams finished with winning records. However, the Chicago White Sox struggled greatly and recorded a modern MLB record of 121 losses. They are expected to have a tough season again. The Detroit Tigers are aiming to continue their success from last year. They ended their long playoff drought and have kept their key players. Star pitcher Tarik Skubal and two-time All-Star Gleyber Torres are key additions. However, the Tigers have been dealing with injuries in their outfield. The Kansas City Royals made a strong push last year, reaching the playoffs for the first time in a while. They have kept their strong pitching staff intact but traded away pitcher Brady Singer for infielder Jonathan India. The Royals hope their offense will improve to compete for the division title. The Cleveland Guardians, under new manager Stephen Vogt, had a good season last year, reaching the ALCS. Their bullpen is strong, but there are concerns over the starting rotation and the lack of power in the lineup. The Minnesota Twins had a quiet offseason, maintaining much of their roster from last year. They hope for better health from key players like Carlos Correa. The team is also adjusting its hitting staff to improve after a disappointing finish to the 2024 season. For the White Sox, Will Venable is the new manager after a rough season. The team is still rebuilding and has made some trades but injuries continue to affect their progress. Overall, the AL Central teams appear poised for a competitive year, while the White Sox look to recover from their past struggles.
