thehindu.com

Alappuzha municipality has opened a new water kiosk in Kottankulangara ward. This kiosk aims to help solve local drinking water issues. It was inaugurated by municipal chairperson K.K. Jayamma on Sunday. This new kiosk is part of a larger project. Previously, the municipality installed 20 other water kiosks across various wards in Alappuzha. These include locations like Alissery, Vadackal, and Railway Station among others. The water for these kiosks comes from the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) networks. It is treated using a reverse osmosis process before being distributed to the public. The kiosks charge a nominal fee for the service. The municipality manages the kiosks, while local women from a group called Kudumbashree operate them. M.R. Prem, the chairperson of the Public Works Standing Committee, presided over the inauguration event.
