Alberta bans U.S. alcohol imports over Trump tariffs
Alberta has announced a ban on the import and sale of U.S. alcohol in response to Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on Canadian goods. Premier Danielle Smith criticized the tariffs as an economic attack and urged support for local products. Other provinces, including Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Manitoba, have also implemented measures to restrict U.S. alcohol imports. British Columbia will remove red-state liquor from shelves, while the others have suspended sales and imports of American liquor. On the federal level, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced 25% retaliatory tariffs on CAD 155 billion worth of U.S. products. These tariffs will remain until the U.S. withdraws its trade actions, escalating tensions between the two countries.
