Aleksey Kulemin aims for OHL draft success
Nikolay Kulemin, a former NHL player, has seen his son, Aleksey, shine in youth hockey. The 16-year-old is set to play in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Cup this week. His performance could help him secure a first-round pick in the upcoming OHL draft. Last fall, Nikolay attended the Ottawa Senators training camp but realized his NHL career was over. In contrast, Aleksey's journey is just beginning. He plays for the Don Mills Flyers under-16 AAA team and has made a significant impact during his season. Kulemin's team is highly regarded in Ontario, and he has shown great progress as a player. Aleksey's family planned to move back to Canada so he could play in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). Nikolay reached out to former Leafs player Nik Antropov to find a spot for his son. Aleksey had to prove himself on the Flyers, where he succeeded despite initial challenges. Playing minor hockey in Russia, Aleksey had to adjust to the North American style of play. He quickly grew stronger and improved his game. His coach praised him for his adaptation and high hockey IQ. At six-foot-two and 175 pounds, Aleksey’s physical presence has grown. He has been excelling both on the ice and in school. While the journey to the NHL is long, Aleksey aims for a professional career in hockey, inspired by his father's legacy. Kulemin’s past achievements in hockey are notable, including winning world championships and having a strong season with the Leafs. Now, Aleksey hopes to continue that legacy as he looks forward to his future in the sport.
