Alex Davies raises funds for brain cancer awareness
A man named Alex Davies, 49, faced life-changing news after waking up to paramedics in his bedroom. He had been on a family holiday when he first fell ill in June 2023. After experiencing a seizure at home, doctors diagnosed him with glioblastoma, a serious form of brain cancer. Alex recalls the panic when he saw paramedics beside him. Initial tests didn't show any problems, but he used his private insurance to get an MRI. This later identified a concerning shadow on his brain. Following surgery, doctors confirmed it was a cancerous tumor, giving him a 12 to 18 month prognosis. In November 2023, he started a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After a clear scan in June 2024, he was hopeful but unfortunately, a scan in October 2024 revealed the cancer had returned. Alex decided to join a clinical trial at Birmingham University, testing a new treatment with a cannabis-based drug. Throughout his battle, Alex has worked to raise awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research. He has taken part in events aimed at highlighting the impact of brain tumors, which affect many young people. With his contributions, he has raised over £6,000 for research and continues to advocate for better support and treatments. Brain Tumour Research praised Alex's efforts, noting that only a small portion of cancer research funds go to brain tumors, despite their severe impact. Alex remains hopeful that sharing his story will help others and bring attention to the need for more research.
