Alex Hedison stars in Armenian film "Ponchik."

Alex Hedison is set to return to acting in the film "Ponchik," directed by Natalie Shirinian. This project marks Shirinian's first feature film as a director after her debut with "Alok." Hedison will star alongside Angela Sarafyan, and together they aim to bring fresh perspectives to Armenian storytelling. The film focuses on the experiences of a 30-year-old first-generation Armenian American living in Little Armenia, Los Angeles. Sarafyan plays the main character, who grapples with her Armenian heritage and her family dynamics, particularly with her mother. The story explores themes of identity, creativity, and the mother-daughter relationship. In a statement, Hedison expressed her excitement about working on this project. She praised Shirinian's vision and commitment to telling stories about the Armenian community. Shirinian also expressed her enthusiasm for having Hedison join the cast, noting that she wrote the role specifically for her. Production for "Ponchik" is scheduled to begin in Winter 2025/2026. The film was well-received at the 2023 Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival Screenplay Competition, where it was a finalist. More cast members are expected to be announced soon.
