All 15 schools in Assam lose affiliation over leak

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Assam's education minister, Ranoj Pegu, announced in the state assembly that the affiliation of 15 schools has been suspended. This decision follows the leak of mathematics and economics exam question papers for Class XI. Pegu stated that fresh admissions for Class XI will also be banned this academic year as a warning to other schools against such unlawful actions. In response to a question from Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal, Pegu explained how the Class XI examinations are organized. The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) manages these exams, while Class X and XII papers are stored securely in police stations. However, Class XI question papers are stored in the schools themselves. All remaining Class XI exams have been canceled due to the leaks. The leaks were first identified in Goalpara, revealing that the seals on question paper packets had been broken in 15 schools, including 12 private institutions. The government is considering moving examination centers to private institutions in light of these breaches. Pegu mentioned that guidelines will be introduced for private schools. Among the affected schools, three are provincialized institutions. The government plans to take action against them as well. Pegu confirmed that ASSEB decided to conduct re-examinations for Class XI after the Panchayat elections.
