All-female crew to launch into space this spring
Blue Origin, led by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, is set to send an all-female crew into space this spring. The mission, named NS-31, will include CBS host Gayle King, pop star Katy Perry, and Lauren Sánchez, who is Bezos' fiancé. They will be joined by NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. This flight will be significant as it marks the first all-female crew since Valentina Tereshkova's solo journey in 1963. The crew will launch aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard spacecraft. It will travel faster than three times the speed of sound and allow the astronauts to experience weightlessness before returning to Earth. Blue Origin has previously taken many notable figures into space, including actor William Shatner and retired NFL player Michael Strahan. The upcoming mission will continue the company's efforts to make space travel accessible to more people.
