Allentown struggles to shut down violent after-hours clubs

Allentown is facing challenges in shutting down after-hours clubs linked to violence, including a recent homicide. City Council passed a nuisance abatement ordinance in 2023, but officials report difficulties in enforcing it. A Bethlehem Township man, James Christopher Frank, has been charged with the homicide of his wife, Deborah Glaser. Frank allegedly confessed to the crime, and he is currently held without bail. The U.S. Department of Education has warned Lafayette College, Lehigh University, and Muhlenberg College about potential enforcement actions over antisemitism investigations. These institutions had previously settled with the department regarding similar issues.
