Amazon Fresh store in Thousand Oaks to close permanently
Amazon Fresh is set to close its store in Thousand Oaks, California, after more than two years in operation. The closure, announced on March 14, will affect 76 employees. The store, located at the Promenade at Westlake shopping center, is scheduled to close on April 27. The Thousand Oaks location was the 40th Amazon Fresh store to open, debuting in August 2022. It featured cashierless checkout technology and had a grand opening event with various giveaways. Amazon spokesperson Griffin Buch stated that some locations perform better than others, leading to the decision to close this store. Customers in the area can still shop online through Amazon’s website, with options for same-day delivery. There are also other Amazon Fresh stores and Whole Foods Markets available nearby. The company is committed to its grocery strategy and plans to refine its store portfolio based on customer feedback. The Thousand Oaks store occupied a space that previously housed Bristol Farms and Vintage Grocers, both of which closed in the past. Amazon Fresh currently operates 25 stores in California, including one in Moorpark, which remains open. Plans are in place to open new stores as positive results are observed from recent designs and features. Meanwhile, a separate Amazon Fresh store in Manassas, Virginia, is also closing, indicating broader changes in the company’s grocery business.
