Amazon offers $110 million in cloud credits to AI researchers to rival Nvidia
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced it will provide $110 million in credits for researchers to use its AI chips, aiming to compete with Nvidia. This initiative includes access to 40,000 Trainium chips for AI model development. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California, Berkeley, are participating in the program. AWS plans to differentiate itself by allowing direct programming of its chips, rather than relying on Nvidia's software. This move comes as AWS faces increased competition from Microsoft in the cloud computing market. AWS hopes to attract large customers seeking to optimize performance and reduce costs in their AI projects.
