Amazon Prime Video increases focus on anime content
Amazon Prime Video is increasing its commitment to anime content in the coming years. In a recent interview, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, stated that the platform aims to attract more subscribers in Japan by enhancing its anime offerings. Salke noted that Prime Video has a significant opportunity in Japan. The plan includes licensing original anime, which reflects the growing interest in the genre. Despite facing tough competition from other streaming services, Amazon is developing a strong lineup of anime content. Recently, Amazon announced it would exclusively stream the new series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. This series adds to its lineup, which already includes popular titles like Made in Abyss and the Rebuild of Evangelion films. Keisuke Oishi, a representative from Prime Video Japan, highlighted the success of previous anime releases and expressed excitement about the new Gundam series. The partnership aligns with the 46th anniversary of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and the 30th anniversary of the Evangelion franchise. Amazon's push into the anime market signals its intent to strengthen its position among streaming competitors.
