Ambazari bridge in Nagpur opens for traffic today
Nagpur: The Ambazari bridge will officially open for drivers on both sides today. It comes after several delays and challenges. The bridge was built by the state Public Works Department (PWD) at a cost of Rs7.54 crore. Chandrashekhar Giri, a PWD executive engineer, confirmed that the approach roads to the bridge are now finished. He mentioned that issues like a shortage of labor and utility cables delayed the project. The work was supposed to be done in January, but they had to wait for MSETCL to move their cables. The reconstruction began in May last year, causing traffic problems in nearby areas. Initially, the bridge was completely closed, leading to chaos. To ease the situation, PWD allowed one side of the bridge to open for two-way traffic while work continued on the other side. During the project, the PWD faced multiple obstacles, including issues with utility lines and bad weather. They also received pressure from the high court to speed things up. The bridge was completed in October, but the approach roads took longer. A trial run of two-way traffic was conducted on Monday, although some dust and materials were left on the road. Giri assured that the road will be cleaned before the official opening. Only the installation of poles on the dividers remains, but this will not affect traffic flow, as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation will handle it.
