Amrita University has distributed seaweed farming equipment to 115 women in five villages in Ramanathapuram district. This is part of the 'Blue is the New Pink' initiative, launched in 2024, to empower women in marine conservation and sustainable livelihoods. This month, women harvested over 1,500 kg of seaweed, securing buyers from marine industries and organic product manufacturers. The initiative has trained over 64 women in seaweed cultivation, providing them with skills and market access. The latest equipment distribution included life jackets, underwater goggles, and other tools to enhance safety and efficiency. The project aims to support women's economic independence and promote sustainable marine farming practices.
