Amritpal Singh's aides transferred to Punjab police custody
Four associates of Amritpal Singh, a radical Sikh preacher, have been handed over to Punjab police from Dibrugarh jail in Assam. This transfer took place on Tuesday, following a request from Punjab police for custody of seven detainees linked to Singh. A team of 25 Punjab police officers arrived in Dibrugarh to take the detainees into custody. They were granted permission to take four of the seven associates initially. Dibrugarh police confirmed that the process for releasing the others is ongoing. On Monday, Punjab police received Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala and Bhagwant Singh. The following day, they took custody of Daljit Singh Kalsi and another individual. After securing these detainees, Punjab police plan to formally arrest them in connection with the Ajnala police station attack from 2023. Amritpal Singh and his associates were arrested under the National Security Act earlier in 2023. They have since been held in Dibrugarh Central Jail, a high-security facility. Amritpal Singh was elected to parliament last year from the Khadoor Sahib constituency.
