Ancient bat roost cave opened as tourist attraction

A new tourist spot has opened in Arunachal Pradesh. The cave, called 'The Ponrung', is located near Lokpeng village in the Siang district. It was inaugurated by Ojing Tasing, the state's minister for panchayat and rural development. 'The Ponrung' is known for its stunning stalactite formations. The cave is now easier to visit, thanks to new concrete steps built with support from Tasing and the local deputy commissioner. This project aims to make the cave a popular destination for travelers. During the opening, Tasing highlighted the potential of Lokpeng as a tourist area. He said developing this site would not only display its natural beauty but also create job opportunities for local residents. He encouraged the community to focus on protecting the environment rather than hunting wildlife. To further enhance the cave's appeal, Tasing announced a funding allocation of Rs 20 lakh. This money will be used to improve facilities such as lighting and infrastructure. The goal is to make 'The Ponrung' a well-maintained and attractive place for visitors.
