Andhra Pradesh allocates ₹143 crore for temple renovations
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved ₹143 crore for the renovation of 76 temples in the state. Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy announced this decision during a meeting at the Sri Venugopala Swamy temple in Nellore district. The Minister stated that the reconstruction of temples is an ongoing effort. A foundation stone was recently laid for the Someswara temple in Somasila by leaders from the Sringeri mutt. Additionally, the government is considering a new policy for leasing temple properties in cities and towns. A meeting led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu will address this topic soon. Key decisions will involve preserving temple assets, leasing buildings, and utilizing income for temple maintenance and festivals. Ramanarayana Reddy also mentioned that renovation plans for the Venugopala Swamy temple will begin shortly, with the support of spiritual leaders. He noted that while the temple has significant assets, its revenue has declined due to past mismanagement. Efforts are being made to restore the temple to its former glory.
