Andhra Pradesh must restore RLIS site for clearance
The Expert Appraisal Committee of India's Ministry of Environment has recommended that Andhra Pradesh restore the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme site to its original state. This step is necessary for the state to apply for new environmental clearance. The recommendation follows a National Green Tribunal order and was discussed in a virtual meeting on February 27. The EAC also modified terms requiring the project proponent to submit an affidavit confirming no work beyond project report preparation. Telangana's government has been actively opposing the RLIS construction, seeking to protect the interests of its farmers. Officials have communicated with various authorities, urging them not to grant environmental clearance for the project.
