Andrew Cray was an American LGBTQ+ activist known for his work on health care access and legal protections for the community. He was involved in initiatives like Out2Enroll and the HOPE Act, and he co-founded Trans Legal Advocates of Washington. Cray married Sarah McBride in August 2014. Tragically, he passed away just four days later from oral tongue cancer. Their relationship began after they met at the White House and connected over social media. Sarah McBride made history in November 2024 by becoming the first transgender person elected to Congress. She previously served as Delaware's first openly transgender state senator after winning her election in 2019.
