Anganwadi assistant accused of child abuse in Kanakapura
In Kanakapura town, an anganwadi assistant has been accused of harming a two-and-a-half-year-old boy. The assistant, named Chandramma, allegedly branded the child’s hand and sprinkled chilli powder in his diaper. This incident reportedly happened on March 18. The boy's father, a laborer, filed a complaint with the police after his wife noticed the child crying when she went to pick him up from the anganwadi center. She found a burn mark on his hand and chilli powder in his diaper. When she confronted Chandramma, she apologized and asked her not to pursue the issue further. Despite the apology, the parents decided to report the case to the police and education officials. However, on Thursday, they returned to the police station wishing to withdraw their complaint. They claimed they had made the report by mistake after hearing allegations against Chandramma. The parents now state that the chilli powder was not inside the diaper but spilled on it from the floor where the food was being prepared. They also said the burn was an old injury the boy got at home. A police officer mentioned that the complaint cannot be retracted easily, as a formal report has already been filed. The parents would need to provide a statement for the court if they want to proceed with the withdrawal.
