He made a comment on social media, stating, “August, but please #novaseline,” referring to an accusation from his coach about Pereira using grease to avoid takedowns. Despite Ankalaev's unsuccessful attempts to take Pereira down during their last fight, he was dominant in striking and landed more effective blows. Ankalaev has also been very active on social media since winning the title, calling out other fighters, including UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Ankalaev expressed frustration with Jones for delaying a title unification fight, urging him to return to the light heavyweight division for a bout. He made a bold statement on social media that has since been removed.
