Anne Hegerty discusses fame's perks and autism advocacy
Anne Hegerty, known as The Governess on the quiz show The Chase, recently shared her thoughts on the perks of being a celebrity. She admitted that her fame helped her recover her lost car quickly. After tweeting about it, the RAC contacted her right away to help locate her vehicle. Hegerty believes that if she weren't famous, it might have taken much longer to get assistance. In the video she posted, the 66-year-old star discussed the strange reality of getting "freebies" now that she is rich and famous. "I've gone into pubs and wanted drinks and been told it’s on the house," she said. She reflected on her past, noting that when she was poor, she didn’t receive such treatment. "It’s brilliant. It’s wrong and unfair but brilliant," Hegerty added. Beyond her celebrity status, Hegerty has been open about her struggles and successes in life. She was diagnosed with autism at age 45, after recognizing traits of the condition in herself. Since then, she has advocated for greater awareness of autism and Asperger syndrome. Hegerty's love life has also intrigued many. She humorously responded to rumors about being married to someone named Jake Hester, claiming she had no idea who that was. While she receives romantic offers, she prefers to remain single. "I find men make such great friends — so let’s keep them like that," she concluded.
