Anthony Hopkins plays a unique villain in "Locked."
Anthony Hopkins is back as a villain in the new thriller Locked. He plays a character named William, who takes justice into his own hands after a thief, played by Bill Skarsgård, breaks into a car. The film, directed by David Yarovesky, premiered in theaters on March 21, 2025. In a recent interview, Hopkins said that this role is very different from his famous character Hannibal Lecter. He emphasized that he doesn’t focus solely on playing villains. He described his approach to characters simply, stating that he does not consider himself a "villainous actor." Locked is an English-language remake of the Argentinian film 4x4. In the movie, the thief Eddie must confront William while trapped in the car, using the vehicle's speaker system to communicate. After Locked, Hopkins will appear in another film called Wife and Dog, directed by Guy Ritchie. This movie involves themes of crime and aristocracy, similar to Ritchie’s previous works. Hopkins shot his scenes in February and noted Ritchie's dynamic approach to directing, including frequent script changes. Later this year, Hopkins will release his memoir titled We Did OK, Kid. It comes out on November 4, 2025. In it, he talks about how he stumbled into acting after struggling in school and ultimately found success in his career. Locked is now showing in cinemas.
