Apple Pay launches in Puerto Rico for local users
Apple Pay is now available in Puerto Rico. Users of iPhones, iPads, and Macs in the territory can use Apple Pay for shopping, both in stores and online. This service is available even for those who do not have credit or debit cards from the mainland U.S. Previously, Apple Pay was not offered to banks in Puerto Rico. However, residents could still use the Apple Card and link it to U.S. credit and debit cards. Currently, Banco Popular is the first bank in Puerto Rico to support Apple Pay. Cardholders from Banco Popular can add eligible cards to the Wallet app and make contactless payments at any store that accepts Apple Pay. Apple Pay was launched in 2015 and has since been introduced in many countries and territories globally. Along with the launch in Puerto Rico, Apple has also introduced a feature called Tap to Provision in Hong Kong, Macao, and Mongolia. This feature allows users to add eligible cards to the Wallet app simply by tapping them on the back of their iPhone.
