Apple to launch 5G modem in iPhone SE 4 and iPad models next year
Apple's long-awaited 5G modem will launch in the fourth-generation iPhone SE, iPhone 17 Air, and low-end iPads next year. The modem will support theoretical download speeds of up to 4 Gbps but will not include the faster mmWave technology. The new devices are expected to be released as early as March for the iPhone SE and iPads, with the iPhone 17 Air set for September. Apple has been testing the modem with employees to address early issues like heat and power consumption. Apple aims to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm by developing its own modem, which has been in the works since at least 2018. The company extended its supply agreement with Qualcomm through 2026 while working to improve its modem technology.
