Apple's C-class modems enable cellular connectivity for Macs
Apple has introduced its first in-house modem called the C1. This modem outperforms Qualcomm's 5G option and includes two important features. According to rumors, future C-class modems could lead to significant upgrades for Apple products. One major possibility is that Apple may bring cellular connectivity to Mac computers by 2026. Currently, cellular features are only available on devices like the iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad. If successful, this would allow Mac users to access the internet without Wi-Fi. Another potential upgrade involves integrating modems into the main processor of iPads and MacBooks. This would improve energy efficiency and cut costs. While it may take a few years to see this, integrating modems could eliminate the need for extra charges for cellular models. The transition to in-house modems could provide Apple with several advantages. It reduces dependency on Qualcomm and enhances user experience. With future updates expected to improve connectivity even further, the idea of cellular Mac computers and all iPads featuring cellular capabilities may become a reality.
