Apple's iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 introduced Genmoji, allowing users to create custom emojis. However, the feature has strict limitations, requiring users to base creations on existing images of people, which can hinder the generation of generic characters or objects. Genmoji struggles with humanoid creatures and complex requests, often defaulting to human-like images. It cannot create multiple characters, copyrighted items, or anything violent. While it performs well with animals and simple objects, generating text or nuanced facial expressions remains challenging. Users can share Genmoji with others on iOS 18.1 or 18.2, where it appears as an emoji. However, those on older devices or Android will see it as an image. The feature can also drain battery life significantly during use.
