Archie in "Beyond Paradise" evolves without needing redemption
Jamie Bamber, who plays Archie Hughes in the BBC show Beyond Paradise, recently shared insights about his character's return in the third season. Archie is the ex-fiancé of Martha, which has caused tension with her current partner, Humphrey. Bamber stated that Archie does not need a "redemption arc" despite his personal growth. He believes Archie’s presence will encourage Martha to reflect on her life choices. The actor mentioned that although many viewers see Archie as a villain, he simply represents a different perspective. In the new season, Archie returns after some time away, suggesting he has done some soul-searching. Bamber noted that Archie is still searching for love and is trying to avoid past mistakes. He emphasized that people often learn from their experiences but can still struggle with old habits. Initially, Bamber thought his role in Season 1 concluded well and did not expect to return. However, when approached by the creative team with a new storyline, he was pleasantly surprised. He feels the new challenges facing Archie are more complex and real, reflecting life in midlife. Bamber expressed excitement about being part of the show again and praised its engaging storylines. Beyond Paradise Season 3 will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on March 28.
