Argentina boosts food and energy supply for India
Argentina is becoming an important partner for India's food and energy security. The two countries have a strong trading relationship, with bilateral trade reaching $4.6 billion. Argentina supplies key agricultural products like soybean and sunflower oil to India, which are crucial for the country's food needs. Ambassador Mariano Caucino spoke at the India-Mercosur Session during the INDIA-LAC Conclave 2025. He highlighted the strategic partnership that began in 2019, emphasizing the strong ties between Argentina and India. According to Caucino, India is one of Argentina's top six export partners. In addition to food supplies, Indian investments in Argentina are growing, particularly in the mining sector. Companies from India are exploring resources like lithium, copper, and gold in Argentina's Catamarca province. Recent meetings with Argentine officials have been productive for these ventures. Argentina's oil and gas sector is also seeing increased collaboration. A significant agreement was signed in January between YPF, Argentina's main oil company, and Indian firms like Oil India and ONGC. This deal focuses on supplying liquefied natural gas to India. Caucino noted that India's economy is now the fifth largest in the world. He stressed the need to strengthen ties between Argentina and India for the mutual benefit of both nations.
