Arizona girl, 6, dies from unrelated fungal infection
A six-year-old girl from Arizona, Lola Zimmer, died from a fungal infection on March 4, shortly after completing her final chemotherapy for leukemia. She was diagnosed with cancer in October 2024 after collapsing during a Halloween outing. Lola's family believed she was cancer-free after her last treatment. However, doctors discovered the fungal infection just before re-testing her bone marrow for cancer cells. The infection spread quickly, leading to her heart stopping. Her family is now grieving and has started a GoFundMe to help with expenses. They describe Lola as a vibrant child who loved animals and being outdoors.
