Arsenal targets Jonathan David as summer free agent
Arsenal is looking to sign Jonathan David, a striker from Lille and the Canadian national team, as a free agent this summer. The team hopes to strengthen their attack, especially since they have struggled to score enough goals this season. Currently, Arsenal sits 12 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League. They have scored 53 goals, while Liverpool has 69. Arsenal's top scorer, Kai Havertz, has only nine goals, highlighting the need for more offensive power. Manager Mikel Arteta wanted to add a striker in January due to Gabriel Jesus' injury. While Arsenal made a bid for Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa rejected it. Now, they are focusing on David, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract ends. However, Arsenal will face competition to sign David. Teams like Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, and others are also interested in him. This season, David has scored 23 goals and made 10 assists for Lille, showcasing his talent. David has a preference for playing in La Liga, as he grew up watching the league. He recently stated that he enjoys the speed and physicality of the Premier League but would like to play in Spain one day. In addition to David, Arsenal is monitoring Luis Diaz from Liverpool and is firm about keeping young talent Ethan Nwaneri, amid interest from Real Madrid. However, they may lose defender Gabriel, with interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
