Arson destroys classroom at Eastleigh preschool
A preschool in Eastleigh has suffered major damage due to a suspected arson attack. The fire occurred on Wednesday night and destroyed a classroom, furniture, and toys at the Little Owls preschool, according to the charity that runs it, Youth Options. The charity's CEO, Madeleine Durie, called the act "senseless," saying it has taken away a safe and inspiring space for young children. The preschool serves 42 children each week and is currently unable to operate. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary reported being called to the fire at around 7 PM GMT and is now treating the incident as a suspected arson. Durie emphasized that the preschool is more than just an educational facility; it is a place where children build confidence and a love for nature. In response to the destruction, Youth Options is appealing for public donations to help replace what was lost. Durie mentioned that there would be a significant shortfall in funds despite possible insurance payouts and expressed hope that the community would support the rebuilding effort. She reiterated the importance of community assistance in restoring the preschool for the children and families who rely on it.
