Asafo Aumua extends contract with Hurricanes until 2027
Asafo Aumua, the All Blacks hooker, has extended his contract with the Hurricanes for two more years. He will now stay with the team and New Zealand Rugby until the end of 2027. Aumua has played 68 matches for the Hurricanes since debuting in 2018. He first gained attention during a standout season with the Lions in 2017. The 27-year-old has also represented New Zealand at various levels, including secondary schools and under-20 teams. Aumua expressed his excitement about continuing to play for the Hurricanes, saying it feels special to play with his teammates in his home city. Team coach Clark Laidlaw highlighted Aumua's importance, noting his recent consistent performance has shown his talent. Laidlaw praised Aumua as a dynamic player and a developing leader within the team. Aumua has proven he can influence others with his maturity and consistency on the field. After recovering from a lower leg injury, he recently returned to action last week in a match against the Highlanders in Dunedin.
