This outbreak has also resulted in the culling of 48 pigs. Local village leaders reported that the number of pig deaths might be higher than the official count. In Zawlnuam town, leaders said 35 pigs died recently, while officials reported only 17. In another area, Lawngtlai, five pig deaths were recorded with no culling on that day. However, 15 pigs were culled the following day. The official counts show that 188 pigs died in Bungtlang South village, 77 in Lawngtlai, and 17 in Zawlnuam.
