Ashley Ridge Girls Soccer team wins three straight
The Ashley Ridge Girls Soccer team, known as the Swamp Foxes, is on a winning streak after a tough start to the season. They struggled in the Viking Cup tournament, finishing with a record of 0-3 and scoring only one goal against Legion Collegiate Academy, Greenville, and River Bluff. However, the team's fortunes changed. They won their next three matches, dominating their opponents with a score of 17-2. This included shutout victories over Stratford and Stall, and a 4-2 win against Fort Dorchester on March 20, bringing their overall record to 3-3 and 2-0 in their region. Team captain Juju Causey, who is recovering from an ACL injury, expressed pride in her teammates' performance. She noted that the recent wins boost the team's confidence and improve their standing in the region. The roster includes eight seniors and several players returning from last season. The team’s midfield is a key strength, led by seniors Sarah Lopez and Kierstyn Davenport. Experienced defenders include seniors Faith Berger and Aubrye Scott. Goalkeeping duties are shared between sophomores Abby Zailski and Emma Varrecchione. Sophomore Marlee Christmas is expected to be a significant scoring threat. The Swamp Foxes' head coach is Mark Weaver, supported by assistant coaches Alexis Poe, Shanay Topper, and Emily Kifer. They will host James Island on April 1 and West Ashley on April 4, both matches starting at 7 p.m.
