Ashwin thanks Dhoni for his return to CSK
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin recently expressed his appreciation for MS Dhoni, the former captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ashwin thanked Dhoni for bringing him back to CSK, a team he has celebrated five IPL championships with. He shared his memories of how Dhoni effectively used him as a bowler in his early IPL career. Ashwin spoke at the launch of a book titled "Leo -- The Untold Story of Chennai Super Kings," which was attended by notable figures, including Dhoni and key coaching staff members Stephen Fleming and Mike Hussey. During the event, Ashwin reflected on a particular moment in IPL 2010 when he received the new ball from Dhoni against the Mumbai Indians. He noted that Dhoni communicated little but expected him to get the dangerous Kieron Pollard out, which he accomplished thanks to a fortunate catch. Ashwin also revealed a desire for Dhoni to present him a memento during his 100th Test match last year. He expressed gratitude that Dhoni instead facilitated his return to CSK. Former cricketer Kris Srikkanth praised Dhoni for recognizing Ashwin's talent early in his career, helping him to excel in all formats of the game. Srikkanth highlighted Ashwin's remarkable journey from a young bowler in Tamil Nadu to an accomplished player with over 100 Test matches and 500 wickets for India. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan shared his history with Ashwin, recalling their friendship and connection during the 2009 IPL in South Africa. Chennai Super Kings will begin their 2025 IPL season against rivals Mumbai Indians on March 23 at Chepauk Stadium.
