Asif Ali credits Kamal Haasan for his acting career
Malayalam actor Asif Ali recently discussed his career and new film, Rekhachithram. He credits his inspiration to veteran actor Kamal Haasan. Asif has been in the film industry for 15 years and has experienced both successes and failures. He is currently enjoying the success of two films, Rekhachithram, which is streaming on Sony LIV, and Kishkindha Kaandam. He feels grateful for his recent achievements after a rough patch between 2022 and 2023. Choosing scripts was challenging for Asif early in his career. He often took on too many projects without thoroughly considering them. However, working with talented directors and actors in recent years has improved his decision-making. He has completed around 82 films and feels that his experiences have positively influenced his choices. In his film roles, Asif focuses on the characters rather than his position as a lead actor. He seeks impactful roles, whether in solo films or multi-starrers. For instance, he took a risk by playing a negative character in the female-led film Uyare, despite concerns from friends and well-wishers. He found the script compelling and relatable. While his father is involved in politics, Asif chose acting, inspired by his father's love for movies. Growing up watching films, he became a fan of both Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan. Kamal's ability to portray diverse characters motivated Asif to pursue acting. Asif admits he once desired stardom but has shifted his focus. Now, he values the satisfaction of playing roles and the appreciation he receives from audiences over fame.
