Assam opposition demands motion against BJP's Trivedi remarks

Opposition leaders in Assam are calling for a resolution against BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi. This follows Trivedi's comments in the Rajya Sabha where he referred to Dhubri district as "mini Bangladesh." Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition from Congress, led the demand. He stated that Trivedi's remarks insulted the entire state of Assam. Saikia emphasized that such statements should not be tolerated and called for the assembly to adopt a condemnation motion. AIUDF legislator Rafiqul Islam also backed the demand. He questioned whether the government considers Dhubri a part of Assam and urged for a resolution against Trivedi. The assembly's Speaker, Biswajit Daimary, mentioned he would consider the matter. However, discussions did not lead to a conclusion as proceedings continued.
