Assam Rifles relocates from Aizawl to Zokhawsang
The Assam Rifles has officially relocated its establishment from Aizawl, Mizoram, to Zokhawsang, about 15 km away. This move has been positively received by locals, as Zokhawsang is seen as a green and open area. The shift follows decades of requests from the Mizoram government, dating back to 1988, after a violent incident involving the Assam Rifles. The Union Home Ministry directed the relocation in 2019, and the recent ceremony marked a significant moment for the community. Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera noted that the new location offers better infrastructure while maintaining proximity to Aizawl. Local officials expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the long-awaited move.
