"Assassin’s Creed Shadows" features a super-sized soundtrack
The composers Joe Henson and Alexis Smith, known as The Flight, have created a new soundtrack for the upcoming video game "Assassin’s Creed Shadows." The game is set for release on March 20 and takes players to Feudal Japan, introducing two unique characters: a stealthy ninja named Naoe and a powerful samurai named Yasuke. To craft the score, The Flight focused on using traditional Japanese instruments. They wanted the music to reflect the game’s setting and the characters’ experiences. Naoe's theme, for instance, was inspired by her background and uses a traditional clay pipe to create a simple, memorable melody. Smith explained that they aimed to show Naoe's control and power in stealth mode by layering whispered dialogue with dynamic beats. Yasuke’s character required a different musical approach due to his size and backstory. His music has a slower tempo and includes darker tones, but also features softer moments that show his more peaceful side. The team recorded the soundtrack with a full orchestra and incorporated traditional instruments like the shakuhachi flute. The Flight expressed the importance of authenticity in their work, consulting historians and emphasizing unique sounds for each character. They also aimed to create a modern feel for the score by blending traditional music with contemporary influences, including hip-hop. “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” promises a rich gaming experience with its depth in character and music. The full soundtrack is available to stream now, ahead of the game's launch on various platforms.
