Assassin’s Creed Shadows is second on Steam's top sellers

Assassin's Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20. Its pre-sales have already made it one of the top-selling games on Steam. As of March 18, it holds the second spot on the Global Top Sellers list, right behind Counter-Strike 2. Counter-Strike 2 is free to play, but it appears on the list due to in-game purchases. This means its ranking reflects total revenue, not just game sales. Despite reviews stating that AC Shadows is good but not revolutionary, the game has surpassed a recent favorite. AC Shadows has now outperformed Split Fiction, a co-op game that had topped the charts after its release on March 6. Split Fiction had been popular in the UK and was even outselling Valve's Steam Deck. However, AC Shadows is now leading those sales. In addition to Split Fiction, AC Shadows is also outselling popular titles like Monster Hunter Wilds. Several big games are currently discounted during Steam's Spring Sale, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring. However, AC Shadows faces strong competition in Japan, where it is set. The game features Japan's feudal era, which has stirred some controversy. Despite that, it was among the best-sellers on Amazon Japan before its launch. Recently, the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch has affected its sales in Japan. With a perfect review score, more players are now choosing to buy Xenoblade instead of AC Shadows.
