Asteroid 2024 PT to become mini-moon for two months without threat
Astronomers have confirmed that asteroid 2024 PT will become a mini-moon for about two months, starting in a few weeks. This asteroid, from the Arjuna belt, poses no threat to Earth despite its potential destructive power if it were to collide. Astrophysics Professor Adam Frank noted that the 10-meter rock will not come close enough to cause damage. It will orbit at a distance similar to the moon's orbit, ensuring safety for the planet. While the mini-moon will be too dim to see, astronomers are studying it to better understand asteroids. The asteroid is expected to return as a mini-moon in early 2025.
