Astrology popularity surges among Gen Z users
Astrology is experiencing a surge in popularity, particularly among young people. Many turn to astrology apps for guidance and support. For instance, the American app Co-Star has over 30 million users who pay for personalized advice. In India, AstroTalk connects many astrologers with about 80 million customers. The market for astrology-related services is expected to grow significantly, from $12.8 billion in 2021 to $22.8 billion by 2031, according to Allied Market Research. A recent survey showed that 70% of Americans believe in astrology to some extent. This trend may be driven by a decline in organized religion and a desire for meaning in life. Many people find comfort in astrology during stressful times. Interest increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Google searches for "astrology" reaching a ten-year high in December 2020. Gen Z users are particularly engaged with astrology. More than 60% of users on the Indian platform InstaAstro are from this age group, often seeking relationship advice. In China, a similar trend is found with the app Cece. Technological changes have also expanded astrology’s reach. Traditionally, astrology was shared through newspaper columns. Now, apps and AI make it easier for users to access information. Clients can simply enter their birth details to receive astrological insights, thanks to tools like KundliGPT. AI and astrology may not seem like a natural match, but they share a long history. A book titled "A Scheme of Heaven" highlights how ancient astrological practices were early forms of data analysis, linking them to modern big-data methods. This connection shows that astrology has remained relevant in the digital age.
