Atkinson prioritizes fitness for upcoming India, Australia series
Gus Atkinson, a fast bowler for England, is focused on remaining fit for important upcoming cricket series against India and Australia. The 27-year-old made his Test debut in July 2023 and has already taken 52 wickets in 11 matches, with a strong average of 22.15. He has also scored a century against Sri Lanka. Atkinson aims to play as much cricket as possible in 2025, but he understands the importance of managing his fitness. He recently participated in 11 one-day internationals and wants to stay ready for the challenging five-Test series at home against India and the tour of Australia for the Ashes. He mentioned that the past eight to nine months have been tiring, as he has bowled more than usual, but he is pleased with how he has handled it. Atkinson plans to play a few games for Surrey before the busy summer season with England. He expects some rotation among bowlers but wants to be part of the squad for key matches. Atkinson appreciates having Brendon McCullum as the coach for all formats, as it provides a consistent environment. Outside of international cricket, he is looking forward to helping Surrey defend their County Championship title, starting with a match against Essex on April 4. He is uncertain about his specific role on the team but is committed to contributing to their victories.
