Atmospheric river triggers avalanche warning in Northern California
A powerful atmospheric river has brought heavy snow and rain to Northern California, prompting the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center to issue an avalanche warning. This early-season warning is unusual, as significant snowfall typically occurs later in the winter. The storm, fueled by a bomb cyclone, has caused winds up to 101 mph in the Pacific Northwest. Northern California could see an additional foot of snow, increasing the risk of large and destructive avalanches in the Mount Shasta area. Travel is not recommended near the affected regions due to dangerous conditions. Other winter weather alerts, including storm and wind advisories, are also in effect across California.
