Auburn hires Larry Vickers as women's basketball coach
Auburn University has announced the hiring of Larry Vickers as the new coach for its women's basketball team. Vickers comes from Norfolk State, where he led the team to two conference championships and three consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament over the past three seasons. He will replace Johnnie Harris, who was dismissed following Auburn's first-round loss to Florida in the Southeastern Conference tournament. Auburn's athletic director, John Cohen, praised Vickers for his deep knowledge of women's basketball and his commitment to excellence. Vickers has been at Norfolk State since 2016, achieving a record of 177 wins and 99 losses. He began his coaching career with the Norfolk State men's team in 2008. This year, his team entered the NCAA tournament but lost to Maryland in the first round. In his statement, Vickers expressed enthusiasm about joining Auburn, calling it a top institution with a strong athletics program. He looks forward to working hard to achieve championship success for the women's basketball team.
